Germany World Cup Trophy Damaged
The Germans have damaged the World Cup trophy that was presented to them.

Germany have been celebrating their World Cup victory for over a week now, after beating Argentina at the Maracana. But according to DFB President Wolfgang Niersbach, the team has damaged the World Cup trophy during their celebrations.

He revealed that a piece of the coveted gold and green trophy was chipped off during the team’s celebrations in the capital city of Berlin, with some reports suggesting it was dropped by a player. (More on how they celebrated here: Germany World Cup celebrations in Berlin).

"At one point, a small piece of our World Cup trophy was chipped off," Niersbach said.

"But do not worry! We have specialists on the case who can fix it.”

Although they launched an investigation to find out who the culprit was, it revealed nothing.

“We have investigated persistently who it was that damaged the trophy, but the investigation was concluded without a result."

Fans can relax though as this is not the actual World Cup trophy. The actual trophy is worth more than $10 million. But Die Mannschaft were later given a replica of the trophy, which was what was damaged.

This isn’t the first time a winning team has damaged a World Cup trophy. Italy were also guilty of damaging the prestigious trophy after their win in 2006.
