Getafe 2-1 Real Madrid: Match report

In their quest for the first victory of the 2012-13 La Liga campaign, holding champions Real Madrid succumbed to defeat at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, at the hands of Getafe.

Higuain pushed the champions into the lead with a goal in the 28th minute, after compatriot Angel Di Maria slipped in the ball from between David Abraham and Alexis. In the 53rd minute, an accurate cross from Abdelaziz Barrada from the right, was netted in by Juan Valera with a powerful header to level the scores. In the 75th minute, a powerful counter from the host team culminated in a goal scored by Abdel Barrada, with the assist coming from Adrian Corlunga.

In the 3rd minute of added time, Fabio Coentrao was red carded on the touch line for disruptive behavior. The result left the Los Blancos, five points adrift of their Catalan rivals, who won 2-1 at Osasuna, with a comeback-win inspired by a brace from Lionel Messi.
