Italian international and the latest victim of Luis Suarez’s teeth, Giorgio Chielini has come to aid of his offender.
The Juventus defender has expressed sympathy towards the now Barcelona forward, calling for a revision of the four month ban handed to Uruguayan.
The Ururguayan was punished by FIFA after being found guilty of digging his teeth in to the shoulders of Chielini during their Group D clash in the recently concluded FIFA World Cup. This was the third time that Suarez was found guilty of committing such an offence.
Suarez was suspended for seven games in 2010 while playing in Ajax colours for biting PSV Eindhoven's Otman Bakkal on the shoulder. Three years later at Anfield, the Uruguyans let his teeth do the talking again when he decided to have them take a dig at Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic, resulting in a 10 game suspension.
The Italian however, feels that the decision to hand Suarez a ban from all footballing activities for a period of 4 months seems a bit too harsh.
In an interaction with the media Chielini spoke about the incident and the subsequent actions, saying: “I said what I thought about it even after the incident. I would like the penalty to be revised. No decisions depend on me, but I find it exaggerated.”
Suarez and Barcelona are currently in the process of appealing against the ban to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
