Glasgow Rangers, plagued with financial difficulties, will start their new season in the lowest league tier, it was decided Friday.
The Glasgow based club had already been expelled from the Scottish Premier League, following the formation of a new company after Rangers went into administration, Xinhua reports.
Scottish Football Association chief executive Stewart Regan had expected Rangers to be dropped to the First Division, but 25 out of the 30 clubs had voted for Rangers to be demoted to third division, the lowest league tier in Scottish football.
Rangers are considered as one of the strongest sides in Scotland and have won 54 top-flight league championships as well as 27 Scottish League Cup titles and 33 Scottish Cup titles.
