Dempo SC scored their first win of the 2013 Goa Pro League this afternoon, a 2-0 victory against Sesa Football Academy at the Duler ground in Mapusa. With their first win Dempo move to four points from three matches, while Sesa Football Academy remain on three points from as many games.
There wasn’t much action in the first session with the Sesa Football Academy boys having the best chance of the first session but a long-range free-kick by Nigerian teenager Chukwudi Chukwuma hit only the crossbar. Dempo’s two best attempts from youngster Nickson Castana and Joy Ferrao were off target.
Things got better after the break and Joy Ferrao in the 49th minute could have given Dempo’s the lead when he had an open header but it went wide. At the other end Dom Sahil Tavora shot wide for the Sesa boys.
Dempo broke the deadlock in the 65th minute when substitute Myron Fernandes headed in a cross from another Dempo youngster Mandar Rao Dessai with the Sesa Football Academy defence beaten. In the 78th minute Dempo doubled their lead through English-Irish striker Billy Mehmet, who headed in Myron Fernandes’ cross for his first goal in Dempo colours.
The match ended 2-0 for Dempo and it marked the first win under new head coach Arthur Papas.
