Ligue 1 outfit Olympique Lyonnais were held to a 0-0 draw in their opening fixture against minnows FC Lorient at the Stade De Gerland.
The seven-time French champions were expected to run over their competition, but Hubert Fournier’s men were held at their own backyard following an exceptional performance from Lorient goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte who was in inspiring form during the game.
Les Gones best chance arrived early in the first half itself when attacking midfielder Nabil Fekir's placed effort at the left corner rebounded off the post. However, it didn’t just end there.
A series of quick events followed after that as striker Alexandre Lacazette, who signed a new contract with Lyon until 2019, followed up the rebound with a low driven shot which was saved by Lecomte. The striker immediately leaped in an effort to head the ball goalwards but the effort went in vain as Lecomte was in his way again as he managed to tip it onto the bar before he could finally claim the loose ball which came back of the post.
