#4 Mario Gotze
When the return of Borussia Dortmund’s infamous star from Bayern Munich was announced in the summer, the fans were none too happy about it. While the return made sense for Mario Gotze who failed to kick on at Bayern, it also was a good move for Dortmund in their attempt to replace Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The loss in confidence Gotze suffered at Bayern was evident in the initial months till the match against Bayern Munich in November came around. In that match, Gotze played like the no.10 Tuchel wanted him to and not only picked up a beautiful assist for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but also put on a solid shift that earned him a standing ovation on being substituted.
Dortmund will be hoping for an improvement in performances come January for his tally of 2 goals and 2 assists across 15 appearances does not befit his quality.
Grade – C, slow progress in recovering his previous form
