Former Chelsea defender Graeme Le Saux has admitted that he cannot understand the club’s boss Jose Mourinho’s recent media comments, telling talksport that the Portuguese boss has gone too far with some of his comments. The Chelsea boss has provoked controversy in recent weeks for branding his Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger a “specialist in failure,” while he was secretly recorded by French media saying that he had “no strikers.”
Le Saux conceded that he doesn’t understand Mourinho’s media tactics, asserting that on occasion the Blues boss has gone too far.
“He’s speaking out a lot in the press at the moment and I can’t fathom it out,” said Le Saux.
“A couple of occasions he’s gone too far with his comments. It creates a huge amount of work for the club and for the people behind the scenes having to deal with some of the issues.”
The former Stamford Bridge left back also believes that Mourinho may privately admit regret at some of his comments, stressing that the Chelsea boss has gotten carried away with the media.
“I think you can get a bit carried away. You know the backdrop with Jose and many managers now is that they use the media to protect their players, motivate their players and put down the opposition.”
“Sometimes there’s going to be situations where he says something that in a quiet moment he thinks, ‘oh I wish I hadn’t said that or I wish people hadn’t recorded me when I didn’t think I was being recorded’.”
