Paris, Oct 4 (IANS) Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann has said he wants to reach the level of football superstars like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Manuel Neuer.
In an interview published on Tuesday by French newspaper L'Equipe, the French international said he believes that he is gradually closing the gap to these superstars, especially in terms of winning titles, reports Efe.
Griezmann praised his club, Atletico's chief coach Diego Simeone and France chief coach Didier Deschamps for supporting him.
The French striker recalled that the last European championship gave him a lot of confidence to play freely and "from time to time" he takes responsibility for attacking. He had scored six goals to drive France to the final where they lost 0-1 to Portugal.
On his role in the French national team, Griezmann said he does not see himself as skipper of France "for the time being" despite his popularity and the praise he receives.
He added that he only focuses on enjoying being on the field and will not take on any further responsibilities.
