Growth in African Football

Didier drogba, Samuel eto, Michael essien, Emmanuel adebayor are some of the names that come quickly to our minds when we think of some of the best players in the world.

African football is definitely at it’s peak and an African country hosting the FIFA World cup for the first time shows why. Big clubs like Chelsea, Barcelona and others do heavy scouting in Africa because the country has a lot to offer and the youth definitely shows promise of benefits. Chelsea have had a number of African players scouted and make them global stars.

Africa ofcourse suffers from lots of poverty and internal affairs but that has not even once become a thorn in any African child’s life to live his dream because the joy it brings to them is something they cannot compare to anything. no education, no sufficient food, and constant exposure to bad things has never deterred a single child to play and become a star for his fellow countryman.

Legends like George Weah, Roger Milla, Jay Jay Okacha, Abedi Ayew have largely influenced this poverty and corruption stricken country and have earned great applause from throughout the world for their great contribution to both African football and football as whole. even Nelson Mandela knows what a big part a sport can play so he is never shy of attending and publicising football events. At present the number of African footballers in top flight football is surely increasing and this highlights the constant development the continent is making in the sport.

Very rarely do we see a starting line up without an African player starring in it. half of French team which won the World cup in 1998 comprised of players who were of African descendants. this only points to the exceptional progress the African football is making. i am sure that this progress would continue and that ultimately or rather luckily an African nation would end up with many good players in it who would bring home the World cup and do the continent proud and my best wishes will surely be there with them.
