Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed his opinion on his side's celebrations inside the dressing room following the victory over arch-rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Man City defeated Man United to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table to 11 points and thoroughly enjoyed celebrating in the faces of their fiercest rivals.
There were reports of a post-match bust-up in the tunnel at Old Trafford, with Manchester City assistant Mikel Arteta bleeding from his head. Romelu Lukaku is said to have played a huge role in the incident. The FA have ordered both clubs to submit statements regarding the incident from their own perspectives and will then make a decision on any punishments.
City celebrated with dried milk and some claim that the celebrations got out of hand, with some of the milk being hurled at Manchester United staff members.
However, Guardiola believes that his players did nothing wrong. When asked if he believes the celebrations went too far,Guardiola said:
Definitely not. Believe me. Definitely not. It was the same after the Southampton game, that was 96 mins or something like that, but we were happy. It was a derby, it was the closest rival.
When United win they celebrate, when Arsenal win against United they celebrate, when Arsenal win the FA Cup last season they celebrate, but where? Inside the dressing room.
“[Our behaviour] was correct, believe me. We jumped, because we were happy. People have to understand that we were happy.
Guardiola also believes that his players have the right to celebrate and he is the one who encouraged them to savour the moment of victory. Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has repeatedly claimed that he does not want to comment on the situation but you can see that he is obviously disappointed by it.
City travel to Swansea City whilst United host Bournemouth in their next fixtures, both on Wednesday night.
