Haitian defender, Judelin Aveska has completed his move to the 13 time Federation Cup winners, Mohun Bagan. The 27-year-old defender arrived in Kolkata to get himself registered for the Calcutta Football League(CFL), few days after he agreed terms with the I-League club.
The Kolkata giants signed the defender after their 1st team player Bello Rasaq completed his transfer to their arch-rivals East Bengal and that too immediately after helping Mohan Bagan to clinch the I-League last season.
He now becomes the fifth foreigner to have signed for the Mariners and will play an important part in this season's CFL. Bagan will get a huge boost in its I-League defence by the availability of it’s other foreign players like Katsumi Yusa, Sony Norde, Gustavo Silva and Dudu.
Earlier in the month, Mohun Bagan confirmed the signing of Nigerian striker Macpherlin Dudu Omagbemi for the 2016 I-League season from rivals East Bengal.
He made his International debut for Haiti at the preliminary 2010 World Cup match against Netherlands Antilles and had represented his nation on 37 occasions. He scored his only goal at the International stage against Antigua and Barbuda in a World Cup Qualification Group F match in 2011.
Judelin made only a single appearance at the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, coming on as a late substitute in the team's 1-0 win against Honduras. He has been left out of Haiti’s national squad for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers against Grenada on September 8th. His exclusion from the national squad means that he should be available for selection for the Bengal derby on September 6th.
Bagan’s head coach Sanjoy Sen will be hopeful of a better defensive display by adding a central defender to his team’s ranks.
Aveska will provide the much-needed boost to Bagan’s CFL campaign as they currently lie third in the table five points behind rivals East Bengal. The Mariners will also have to face the possibility of dropped points in the ongoing Calcutta Football League due to an error committed by the club during their last match against Tollygunge Agragami, where they took off both their U-23 players, when there is a rule stating an U-23 player should be on the field at all times during a match.
