Harry Kane: A Brief Biography
Harry Kane MBE is an English professional footballer who plays as a forward for the England national team and Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur. He is Spurs’ highest goalscorer of all time and England’s joint-highest all-time goal scorer. He is renowned for his prolific goalscoring record and his link-up play.
Early Life
Kane was born on July 28, 1993, in Walthamstow, London, England. Kane attended Larkswood Primary Academy, where he began playing football at a young age. He played for local club Ridgeway Rovers before joining the youth academy at Arsenal. However, he was released by the club at the age of eight due to his small size.
He had brief stints with his old club Rovers and Watford before being scouted by Tottenham in 2004, who molded the prodigy into the striker he is today. Kane quickly rose through the club ranks and represented the side in the Under-16 and Under-18 formats.
Club Career
In the 2010-11 season, Kane was loaned to Leyton Orient with whom he made his professional debut in a 1-1 draw against Rochdale. Kane finished the season with 5 goals under his bag in 18 matches.
Following successful loan stints with Millwall, Norwich City, and Leicester City, Kane cemented his spot in Tottenham's first team in the 2014-15 season. Kane had a glorious campaign, which saw him being included in the PFA team as well as being named the PFA Player of the Year. He was also the division's top scorer with 21 goals.
Kane continued his form in the next season, where he won the Premier League Golden Boot with 25 goals and helped Tottenham finish in third place. He was included in the PFA team for the second time in a row.
As the seasons progressed, so did the number of goals coming from Harry Kane's boot. The 2016-2017 season saw him finish with 29 goals and was awarded the Golden boot for a second time in a row, becoming the only fifth player to do so. He was also included in the PFA team for the third time in a row.
The 2017-2018 season saw him reigning supreme over Europe, as he became the continent's top scorer with 56 goals across all competitions. He also became the first player in Premier League's history to score 6 hat tricks in a year. He ended the season by scoring his 100th Premier League goal and also became Tottenham's all-time top scorer.
He led Spurs to the UEFA Champions League final in the 2018-19 season, however, they ended up losing 2-0 to winners Liverpool. He finished as the Premier League's top scorer once again in the 2020-21 season, despite Tottenham's relatively disappointing campaign.
In the 2022-23 season, Kane broke a record when he scored the only goal in the game against Wolverhampton Wanderers, becoming the first player to score 185 goals in the Premier League for a single club, beating Sergio Aguero’s haul of 184 goals.
To date, Kane has scored 270 goals in 424 appearances for Spurs.
International Career
Harry Kane made his debut for the senior England team in 2015 in Euro 2016 qualifiers in a match against Lithuania, where he headed a goal just 80 seconds after appearing on the field. Kane then went on to score 2 more goals in the next two matches to end England's campaign successfully.
He then scored six goals in England's successful qualifying campaign for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, including a hat-trick against Panama. Kane was instrumental in England reaching the semi-finals in the World Cup as he scored six goals, winning the Golden Boot.
He captained England to the UEFA Nations League semi-finals in 2019, scoring in the semi-final defeat to the Netherlands. He has featured in other major tournaments like the 2020 UEFA European Championship and 2022 FIFA World Cup, however, wasn’t successful in winning either.
