Chelsea are monitoring the situation of Sheffield United defender Harry Maguire as their scouts attended the FA Cup clash with Fulham at Craven Cottage on Tuesday night, according to The Metro. The Blues have been on the hunt for a defender, having signed Kurt Zouma on deadline day.
The Blues have tracked the 20 year-old for a number of months as he has earned admiring glances following a string of impressive displays for the League One outfit.
Maguire put in a solid display in the heart of United’s defence as his side dumped Fulham out of the competition with a last minute goal in extra time and he left West London with a clean sheet and Premier League scalp to his name,
Jose Mourinho, who produced a tactical masterclass in the 1-0 victory over Manchester City, is rumoured to be in the market for a long term successor to club captain John Terry.
Sheffield United have valued the youngster at £5million, with Chelsea believed to be willing to secure a deal that would take him to Stamford bridge in the summer. However, as is the case with many new arrivals at Chelsea, he is likely to be loaned out immediately before being giving a chance to compete for a place in the first team squad.
