QPR have made their second big capture of the January transfer window as they confirmed the signing of defender Christopher Samba from Anzhi Makhachkala for a reported club record fee of £12.5 million. The introduction of the big Congolese should shore up QPR’s leaky defence which has so far seen the Hoops concede on 37 occasions in 24 games, a number which would have been much higher if not for the brilliant form of their Brazilian goalkeeper Julio Cesar.
Look for Harry Redknapp to splash more cash in the wee hours of the January Transfer window. He had spent £48 million on players in January 2009 when manager of Tottenham. He has spent £20.5 million so far this window.
Sunderland also look as if they will be strengthening their depth upfront with the signing of Danny Graham. It was earlier reported that Sunderland had reached an agreement with Swansea for a fee of about £5 million. The deal seems to have gone through after pictures were leaked in the media earlier today of Graham wearing a Sunderland jersey as he was expected to arrive at Stadium of Light.
Danny Graham however may not be a popular signing with the Black Cats’ fans as he is known to be a Newcastle fan hailing from the Gateshead region. The striker was earlier booed and jeered when he came on as a 75th-minute substitute during Swansea’s goalless Premier League draw at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday night after Graham had made some comments in the press about Newcastle’s fiercest rivals in the North-East, which seemed derogatory
Meanwhile in the Midlands, Aston Villa have made progress with regards to the strengthening of their squad as they confirmed a deal for Clermont midfielder Yacouba Sylla. The Villans have been struggling of late and are in a relegation battle after no wins in their last 7 games and only 1 goal from open play in their last 7 home games at Villa park.
