Former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand has said that the club should not baulk at the asking price for their former midfielder Paul Pogba, tweeting that even at £50 million he would “fly over & headlock him to sign up!!”
Pogba left United for Juventus in 2012 having grown frustrated at a lack of progression to the first team. However he has since developed into one of the planet’s top midfield players, leading to speculation that United could re-sign the France midfielder.
Juventus are believed to be holding out for a big fee for one of their prized assets, but answering a fan on Twitter Ferdinand said that he believes Pogba is worth the money.
United have already been active in the transfer window this summer, signing both Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera and Southampton left-back Luke Shaw. A move for Pogba would be a signal of intent from new boss Louis van Gaal, with the 21-year-old having scored seven goals and created 48 chances for Juventus last season.
Ferdinand, linked with QPR, is currently without a club, having left United upon the expiration of his contract at the end of the season.
