Arsenal registered a third straight league win on way to a 2-0 victory over Everton, courtesy goals from Olivier Giroud and Tomas Rosicky. The London club leapfrogged Manchester United into third place in the EPL table, only 4 points behind 2nd placed Manchester City. Everton, on the other hand, find themselves only 6 points above the bottom 3.
Giroud, who had a nightmarish outing in the 3-1 Champions League defeat to Monaco, repaid Arsene Wenger’s faith in him by volleying in Mesut Ozil's corner six minutes before half-time.
Everton mounted renewed pressure in the second half – a Romelu Lukaku volley and an Aaron Lennon drive came close to levelling the score.
Mesut Ozil was denied a goal in the closing stages by a magnificent saving tackle from Phil Jagielka, and it was left to club veteran Tomas Rosicky to ease jitters of home fans via a shot deflected off the unlucky Jagielka into goal with one minute left on the clock.
Everton have taken 11 points from their last 15 domestic matches and could yet be dragged into a relegation battle.
