Perhaps Arsenal’s sternest test in pre-season so far came against the German side Wolfsburg as they claimed victory in the pre-season tournament played entirely at the Emirates. The Emirates Cup victory for the Gunners came thanks to a 55th minute goal by Theo Walcott.
Arguably among the best performers of the night was youngster Reine-Adelaide who slid in the superb assist for Walcott’s goal that would prove to be the winner.
While Wolfsburg were resilient at the back, they hardly ever looked like threatening Arsenal. The North London side will now prepare to face Chelsea in the Community Shield on August 2, 2015.
Wolfsburg playing at the Emirates also meant that former Arsenal man Nicklas Bendtner would face his former team at their home. He received warm applause from the spectators having played earlier at the stadium against Villareal as part of the same tournament.
