Defending La Liga champions Atletico Madrid took revenge on the European champions Real Madrid by beating them 1-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday night.
Los Blancos had Cristiano Ronaldo back from injury and he even managed to get on the score sheet. But the star studded line up could not take advantage at home as Atletico won back-to-back league games against Real Madrid for the first time in history.
The loss leaves Real Madrid in 12th place with just one win from the three games they have played. Atletico Madrid moved up to second, two points behind Barcelona.
Real Madrid 0-1 Atletico Madrid: Tiago (10’)
Atletico took the lead through a corner kick in the first half. Tiago headed home from the six yard box and the midfielder didn’t even have to jump with Karim Benzema failing to mark him.
Real Madrid 1-1 Atletico Madrid: Ronaldo (26’ pen)
Cristoano Ronaldo stepped up to take the penalty after earning it himself when Guillherme Siqueira brought him down inside the box.
Real Madrid 1-2 Atletico Madrid: Turan (76’)
Atletico then completed a famous win and claimed all three points in the Madrid derby through a well worked goal. Juanfran crossed the ball in from the right flank where both Raul Garcia and Arda Turan were unmarked. Garcia sold Madrid a dummy as Turan calmly struck the ball through two defenders and the outstretched hand of Iker Casillas into the bottom corner.
