Barcelona defeated Levante 5-0 at the Camp Nou, thanks to a scintillating performance from Lionel Messi, who netted another hat-trick.
The result saw the Catalans continue to keep up the pressure on Real Madrid, who had on Saturday defeated Deportivo la Coruna 2-0 at home, despite their performance not being that great.
The scoring was started in the 17th minute by Neymar, who guided the ball home from a Lionel Messi cross. There was an element of luck associated with the goal, as the Brazilian didn’t make a great connection and saw the ball slowly loop over the goalkeeper and the goal-line. A Lionel Messi hat-trick followed, and then Suarez’s brilliant overhead kick completed the scoreline.
This hat-trick of Messi’s allowed him to level Telmo Zarra’s record for most hat-tricks in Spanish football, and also equal Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 23 La Liga hat-tricks.
