Borussia Dortmun beat Bayern Munich 2-0 in the season opening DFL-Supercup at Signal Iduna Park last night.
Goals from Henrik Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in each half gave Dortmund a lift before the new Bundesliga season gets underway. Robert Lewandowski started for Bayern against his former club.
Bayern may receive more bad news as Jabi Martinez had to be substitued at the half hour mark after he bent his knee the wrong way. The Spaniard was writhing on the ground and will have an MRI scan to see how serious his injury is.
Mkhitaryan scored the first goal in the 23rd minute with a move he started himself. He tried to find Aubameyang who lost control of the ball, leaving Mkhitaryan to smash home the loose ball from just inside the box.
Aubameyang scored the second goal with a powerful header in the 62nd minute after a neat one-two on the right allowed Lukasz Piszczek to float a cross towards the edge of the six-yard box.
