England beat San Marino 5-0 in their Euro 2016 qualifier at Wembley on Thursday to maintain their perfect start with two wins from two games to top Group E
Phil Jagielka opened the scoring in the 24th minute with a header before Wayne Rooney doubled the lead before half-time with a penalty. This was Rooney’s 42nd international goal – seven goals away from Bobby Charlton’s record.
Danny Welbeck added the third from close range after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain worked hard to win the ball back to lay it in his path.
Andros Townsend then scored a fourth with a long range solo effort. The last goal was an own goal by San Marino’s Alessandro Della Valle when Rooney tried to cross the ball. This is his second own goal against England.
