Mexico drew 3-3 with Chile in their 2015 Copa America Group A encounter on Monday night at Santiago’s Nacional Stadium. Arturo Vidal was the host’s hero as he scored twice and assisted a third as the lead exchanged hands thrice in the goal fest.
El Tri took the lead in the21st minute Matías Vuoso scored from close range after Juan Carlos Medina opted to set him up instead of taking the shot after a lob over the defence. But Chile struck back in the very next minute from a set piece situation.
Chile had won a corner and Charles Aránguiz's cross was perfectly delivered for Vidal to rise and score with a header from near the penalty spot. Mexican goalkeeper Jesus Corona had no chance of saving it in spite of the dive
Raul Jimenez then gave Mexico the lead again when they won a corner. Adrian Aldrete’s cross found him near the penalty spot, too, and his looping header was too much for Claudio Bravo to handle.
But Chile roared back to make it 2-2 going into half time when Vidal found Eduardo Vargas in the box with a cross from the right flank. Vargas was unmarked and directed a low header into the bottom left corner for the equalizer.
10 minutes into the second half, Chile took the lead for the first time when Vidal scored from the penalty spot. Alexis Sanchez tried to assist Vidal when he made a run into the box but the Juventus midfielder was brought down by Gerardo Flores. Vidal stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to make it 3-2.
But their joy was short-lived as Mexico equalized 10 minutes later when Matías Vuoso made a run and scored from Aldrete’s lob over the defence. Chile are srill top of the group with 4 points while Mexico are third after two draws.
