The 10th Homeless World Cup 2012 will take place in Mexico City from October 6-14, 2012, where India will be represented once again by a team selected from the Slum Soccer programme run by Krida Vikas Sanstha Nagpur (KVSN).
The games, which are scheduled to take place at the Plaza de la Constitución, Zócalo, Mexico City, will see 48 countries taking part in the men’s competition along with another 14 in the women’s event.
The Indian men’s team has been pitted alongside Scotland, Lithuania, Indonesia, Greece and Peru in an interesting Group D, while the women’s team will face Brazil, England, Argentina, Canada, Nigeria and Kyrgyzstan in Group B.
The members of Team India were selected at the Slum Soccer National Tournament in Bangalore, while their women counterparts were chosen at the National Slum Soccer Championship in Nagpur. The Indian teams are expected to board a flight to Mexico on October 3.
India finished 30th (Men’s) and 13th (Women’s) in last year’s edition of the Homeless World Cup in Paris.
