#5 Real Madrid (2014-15): Lost 2-3 on aggregate to Juventus in the semifinals

Fresh off winning their record-extending 10th title in the competition, Madrid continued from where they left off, becoming the first team in Champions League history to produce multiple perfect group-stage campaigns.
Madrid saw off Crvena Zvezda, Tottenham Hotspur and Olympiacos home and away to make yet another knockout round appearance in the competition. Their 2-0 first leg win away at Schalke 04 saw them equal the competition record for most consecutive match wins (10).
Although that winning run came to an end in the return leg which Madrid lost 3-4 at home, the Spanish capital team saw off cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid courtesy a 1-0 home win in the second leg to reach the semifinals.
However, Madrid's hopes of becoming the first team to successfully defend their Champions League title or the first team with a perfect group-stage campaign to win the competition came undone against Italian giants Juventus.
Following a 1-2 first leg defeat away from home, Cristiano Ronaldo's early strike in the second leg put Madrid ahead in the tie on away goals - only for their on-loand striker Alvaro Morata to produce the crucial intervention for the visitors in the second half.
With the game producing no more goals, Juventus hung on for a 3-2 aggregate win to book a final date with Juventus, even as Madrid were left wondering what might have been.
