Manchester United
David de Gea - 6
De Gea made a solitary save from Ince's effort, only to parry it straight to Mooy, who tucked home to give Huddersfield Town the lead.
Antonio Valencia - 6
The quality of crossing from Valencia was below-par on Saturday. None of his balls met their intended targets.
Phil Jones - 5
Jones' injury problems at the club continue, as he was replaced after 20-odd minutes.
Chris Smalling - 6
Smalling was powerless to prevent either of the goals from going in. He didn't have much work to do as Huddersfield had built a defensive wall to hold on to their advantage.
Ashley Young - 6.5
It took young 75 minutes to get a quality cross into the box, one that was met by Herrera and saved by Lossl. He did a lot of running up and down the flank to win possession from La Parra and subsequently press forward to get United back into the game.
Nemanja Matic - 6.5
Matic tried to bring a sense of calm to the United midfield after they had gone 2-0 down, but he found himself unable to impact play against a spirited Huddersfield Town defence from midfield despite completing nearly 90% of his passes.
Ander Herrera - 6.5
Herrera looked to manoeuvre the ball across the midfield with his passing and lofted balls, but Huddersfield's two-layers-of-four set-up was in no mood to give him any room whatsoever. He came close to scoring, only to see his header saved by Lossl.
Jesse Lingard - 6
Lingard was guilty of losing the ball in promising areas of the pitch, where United could have potentially created a goal-scoring chance. His switch in wings didn't on regular occasions didn't help his case.
Juan Mata - 5
Matt's poor run of form continued, as he failed to affect any creativity into United's play. Moreover, he was the culprit behind the concession of the first goal, losing the ball to Aaron Mooy with only the centre-backs for cover. He was taken off at half-time.
Anthony Martial - 5
Like Mata, even Martial got the boot at half-time after an ineffective display from the left-wing.
Romelu Lukaku - 6.5
Though he provided the assist for Rashford's goal, Lukaku has to be struck down for not using his strength to create space inside the hosts' penalty area and getting outmuscled and dispossessed by Schindler on regular instances.
Substitutes
Victor Lindelof - 4
Lindelof endured a torrid 70 minutes at the Kirklees Stadium as he was bogged down by Depoitre's strength and height throughout. His failure to head the ball away gifted Depoitre the ball and hence, the second goal. His clearances were unconvincing and Mourinho's first summer signing currently looks a liability.
Marcus Rashford - 7
Rashford brought some pace and liveliness to United's attack and tipped an impressive performance with a goal. He was the only player to run into space in the defence and threaten to complete the comeback.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan - 6
The Armenian's creativity from the number 10 position was called for in the second half, but even he was unable to force a comeback. He was able to create just one good chance but was flagged offside in the process.
