Norwich City manager Chris Hughton insists that he is still the right man for the job despite Saturday’s 7-0 loss to Manchester City.
The Canaries boss admitted that his side had let their fans down but backed his squad to turn things around. The Canaries currently sit 18th in the table, one place and one point away from safety.
“I have confidence in my own ability and in the changing room,” Hughton told BBC Sport.
“It is hurting at this moment. We have let down the supporters who have travelled to Manchester. “It was difficult from start to finish against Manchester City.
“We knew the quality they had and they showed that today, but you have to be resilient and you cannot concede the goals we did. By our standards they were too soft, except the Yaya Toure free kick and one that was offside.
“I hope it is a one-off but there have been a couple of games of late where we have conceded goals. We need to address it as soon as possible.”
Norwich have conceded 20 goals already this season. Only Crystal Palace and Sunderland have conceded more than the Canaries although Norwich have kept three clean sheets over the season.
He continued: “We need to put it to bed as quickly as possible and [we need to] be far better next week.”
Norwich host a goal shy West Ham United side next week, and will be hoping to quickly put the City result behind them.
