Hungarian international Jozsef Varga will move to English second tier side Middlesbrough next month on a one-year loan deal, his club Debrecen said in a statement on its website today.
As part of the deal, which begins on July 1, Middlesbrough will have the option to buy Varga for 950,000 euros ($1.24 million) after the year is up, the statement said.
A defensive midfielder, Varga, 25, has played 21 times for Hungary’s national team.
He was voted player of the year last year for Debrecen, where he has played since 2007, and joined German Bundesliga side Greuther Furth last season on a half-year loan.
“I have one year to show that I am worth my place in the Championship,” Varga said Tuesday of his move to England.
“Naturally I would like Middlesbrough to count on me on a long-term basis,” he added.
