Former Shillong Lajong striker Anil Gurung confessed ahead of Nepal’s international friendly against India that he wishes to return to the I-League and thus aims to make a big impression on Tuesday.
“I always want to prove a point when I face India because I want to play in the I-League again. I still have some regrets of my time at Lajong as I strongly feel I could have done better so hopefully I will get another chance to play in India,” he told Sportskeeda.
The 25-year-old scored in the 2-1 win over India at SAFF 2013 and admitted that Wim Koevermans’ side is slightly inexperienced but is not underestimating India at all.
“India are always a strong team in this region. It doesn’t matter who they will play and whether they have experience or not. We always expect a tough match against India. But we played well in the SAFF Championship and now aim to perform at our very best in this match,” Anil stated.
Anil, who now plays his club football for MMC in Nepal, has been in action at the Sikkim Governors Gold Cup along with 12 other national team players and thus he feels fatigue could be a concern ahead of this match.
“Yes fatigue could be a factor as some players haven’t had much rest so that’s not ideal but we will still try to give our 100%,” he concluded.
