Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has urged injury-stricken Chelsea to not recall Trevoh Chalobah following the Blues' recent 1-1 Premier League draw at Selhurst Park.
Enzo Maresca's side, who loaned out Chalobah to the Eagles past August, are currently in the midst of an injury crisis. Wesley Fofana could miss the rest of the ongoing season and Benoit Badiashile is also nursing a hamstring injury now.
Due to their current situation, Maresca was forced to start Josh Acheampong at centre-back against Crystal Palace earlier this Saturday When queried about his side's plans in the winter transfer window, he replied (h/t Football Transfers):
"Even if we don't decide to buy players or sell players, we already knew Josh was good enough. But with Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana's injuries, we will see if something can happen."
After the end of the Premier League contest at Selhurst Park, Glasner shared his two cents on the possibility of Chelsea recalling Chalobah this month. He stated (h/t Football Transfers):
"I could see that there was Axel Disasi and Tosin Adarabioyo on the bench. I don't know if you need another one if you play with two. I was just reading that Aaron Anselmino [has] come back so they have five. I don't know what they're planning. Trevoh is doing very well for us."
So far this campaign, Chalobah has started all 14 of his appearances across all competitions for Glasner's outfit. He has featured in 12 Premier League matches, finding the back of the net three times and picking up a yellow card, for them.
Enzo Maresca opines on Chelsea's poor form
Following Chelsea's 1-1 league draw at Selhurst Park, Enzo Maresca was asked to opine on his team's sub-par run of form. He replied (h/t football.london):
"Two or three weeks ago, we were talking about the title race. I never thought [about the title race]. We knew that Newcastle [United], Aston Villa and Manchester City would be there, so for me, it's not about the table, it's about how we can improve things."
Maresca, who left Leicester City to join the Blues in 2024, continued:
"The performance today was very good on and off the ball. I knew at this moment in the season, it is going to happen in every season that some teams are not going to win some games. The reason why, I think every game is different. Sometimes I think for one reason and sometimes for another reason."
Chelsea, who are fourth with 36 points from 20 league outings, relished 62% possession and registered 15 shots in their encounter against Crystal Palace.
The Blues will next take on Morecambe in the FA Cup on January 11.
