DSK Shivajians Football Club is delighted to confirm the extension of Spaniard Juan Quero’s contract for 2016-17. The winger, who was instrumental in the club’s debut I-League season, returns to the Pune-based squad for the season ahead.

The former Read Madrid youth player joined DSK Shivajians FC back in February 2016. His inclusion made a strong impact in the team’s performance, which led to the management handing him a contract extension.

In Quero’s first season in the Indian subcontinent, at DSK Shivajians FC, Quero started 10 matches, scored three goals apart from creating three more.

Quero’s brace against Mohun Bagan in an away match at the Barasat Stadium, Kolkata, which helped the club earn a 3-3 draw, was the highlight of his impressive performance in the DSK Shivajians FC’s jersey.

Dave Rogers, First Team Manager of DSK Shivajians FC, said: “I have been watching Juan since he arrived at our club, during the middle of last season. The most notable ingredient I saw in him was his passion. It was important for me to tie down Juan to a new contract as he has vast experience and creative ability.

“I have seen the impact he can make, first-hand, on the pitch, and I am certain that he will breed enthusiasm and expertise to the rest of the squad and especially, our younger players. I look forward to working with him daily on the training pitch and encouraging Juan to drive us forward and lead by example”

Shirish Kulkarni, President, DSK Shivajians FC said; “We are glad to have extended Juan Quero’s contract. Quero is versatile and talented and above all a fighter with a lot of heart when on the pitch. He is a package that younger players need to look upto and learn from.

“Given his excellent performance all through last season he turned out to be an asset and I am glad to have him signed for the forthcoming season.”

Quero started his professional playing career in Spain with Santa Ana following his stint at Real Madrid youth team. He then moved to Alcorcon in the third division where he plied his trade till 2007. In 2007, he moved to Numancia, where he helped the team to gain promotion to the La Liga. His debut came against Real Madrid in a 3-2 loss at the Bernabeu. In 2009, he moved to RayoVallecano, where he played for three years before moving to Dubai Club.

The Thai Premier League was his next destination, as he played for Buriram United in 2013. After two years in Thailand, playing for clubs like Chonburiand Ratchaburi, he went back to Spain for a short stint with Hercules. Finally, before moving to DSK Shivajians FC, he played for Birkirkarain the Maltese Premier League.

Expressing his pleasure at extending his contract with DSK Shivajians FC, Juan Quero said: “It is my personal pleasure to sign a new contract with DSK Shivajians FC. I enjoy working with the First Team Manager Dave Rogers as the passion and confidence he instills in us players is unparalleled.

“We enjoy an enthusiastic environment and work ethic both on and off the training pitch. We have been training with great intensity, organization and discipline to prepare for the new season. Our workouts have been tough but, at the same time, enjoyable, which will give us a distinct advantage during the season.

“This year, I am confident that DSK Shivajians FC will play to win every match with energy and desire to finish as high up the I-League table as possible.”
