#4 Chennai City FC fail to put up a fight
As the scoreline would suggest, this was Chennai City FC’s worst game of the season, one which has left them dangerously close to the relegation zone. They came into this fixture on the back of four draws and a victory. East Bengal’s arch-rivals Mohun Bagan had already suffered at the hands of Chennai having lost once and drawn one game. Khalid Jamil had already pointed out that his opponents would be a tough nut to crack, but the visitors hardly put up a fight on Saturday which in turn made East Bengal’s job easier.
There was no cohesion between the goalkeeper and defence which allowed the East Bengal forwards to run their show as per their wish. While Ravanan was guilty of scoring an own goal, Dudu and Kromah were allowed too much space to dictate terms.
Chennai are eighth on the table with 16 points from 17 games. Unless other results go in their favour, even a win in the last match would not be enough to save Chennai from getting relegated.
