What's the story?
Mohun Bagan coach Sanjoy Sen hailed his side for their performance against East Bengal in the I-League, saying that the Mariners could have won 5-0, had they converted their chances on the afternoon.
In case you didn't know...
Mohun Bagan and East Bengal both came into the important match after both of them shared honours in their respective opening games against Minerva Punjab and Aizawl FC. The Kolkata giants were playing cautiously as they didn’t want to lose a point in the second game. But at the end, Mohun Bagan held on their nerves and maintained their one-goal lead to register their first win in the ongoing I-League.
The heart of the matter
In post-match conference, the Bagan coach admitted that they could have won the game by a big margin.
“We could have won the game by at least five to six goals, two of them hit the post, Kromah missed two, Dicka missed two. Maybe if the refereeing was up to the mark, we could have been awarded a penalty as well,” said Sanjoy after the match.
Kingsley was given the ‘man of the match’ award for scoring the goal that made the difference as well as guarding the Bagan goal excellently during the entire length of the match.
What's next?
Mohun Bagan will be upbeat following the Derby win and would like to extend their winning streak because their next 3 matches in the I-League are all home fixtures. They will clash against Churchill Brothers on the 10th of December, while East Bengal will host Shillong Lajong FC a day earlier.
Author's take
Mohun Bagan have shown that they are quite a settled side and will get better and better as the season progresses. Striker Dipanda Dicka is yet to score a goal, which is only thing Sanjoy Sen would be worried about. Meanwhile, East Bengal have to work on their defence in the future days as they showed signs of weakness in the first two matches.
