The Kolkata Maidan saw action after years as Mohun Bagan FC faced Indian Arrows FC at the Maidan for the first time. It was a historic moment for the home side as well as for the fans of the club. Indian Arrows came into the game high on confidence after a convincing 3-0 win against Shillong Lajong. Meanwhile, the home side headed into this game after a lacklustre 0-0 draw against Neroca FC.
The attendance in the stadium was more than usual because of the historic occasion and the Mohun Bagan fans made themselves heard throughout the match. Dipanda Dipanda put the Mariners in the lead via a penalty, sending the home fans into a rapturous applause. However, the Indian Arrows were quick to respond and equalised in the 33rd minute, an easy tap-in by Rahul KP.
Both teams created plenty of chances in the remainder of the game but none of them were clinical enough to find the back of the net. Indian Arrows FC were down to 10 men as captain Amarjit Kiyam saw a red card in the 65th minute, but they managed to hold on and eke out a point.
After the match, however, the Mohun Bagan fans did something that was completely unexpected and gave the Indian Colts a standing ovation.
The home side were clearly the favourites but Indian Arrows showed resilience and drew the game despite being a man down.
Mohun Bagan's next game is also at their home ground against Chennai City FC, while Indian Arrows will play East Bengal next.
