Former champions Dempo SC trashed title chasing Sporting Clube de Goa 4-0 in an I-League Goan derby encounter at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Margao on Saturday evening. All four goals came in the first half.
After even opening exchanges in the Goan El Clasico, two penalties for Dempo SC sealed the fate of the match within two minutes and Dempo scored two more within the first 31 minutes to score an emphatic derby victory.
Dempo took the lead in the 16th minute through a Tolgay Ozbey penalty following a foul from Deepak Devrani against Tolgay, while only two minutes later Clifford Miranda was brought down by Keenan Almeida and this time Brazilian Roberto Mendes Silva scored, but on both occasions Ravi Kumar jumped into the right corner without being able to get his hands onto the ball.
Then winger Clifford Miranda netted the third in the 25th minute after a nice build-up as Sporting Goa seemed shocked following the two quick penalties and then in the 31st minute Tolgay grabbed his second of the match to seal the 4-0 win.
Thereafter things were sealed though Sporting Clube de Goa tried to get a consolation goal for the remainder in the match, which didn’t happen.
