I-League: United SC host Shillong Lajong FC on Sunday in Kalyani

United SC will play hosts to Shillong Lajong FC at the Kalyani Municipal Stadium on Sunday afternoon at 2:30pm, which will be the first match for the Reds from Shillong after the I-League break.

The Shillong outfit were supposed to play against Mohammedan Sporting Club on February 16 but the match had been postponed to a later date which will be confirmed by the AIFF. The Reds will certainly go all out for a win tomorrow and try to seal their first win of 2014. Lajong FC’s last I-League match had been on December 21, in which they had registered a 2-1 win over Dempo SC.

The Reds were seen last playing in the Federation Cup and although they could not qualify for the semifinals they had a good tournament except the trashing at the hands of Mohun Bagan.

Coming back to the I-League, Shillong Lajong head into this match in good league form as they won thrice and lost twice in their last five matches. While United SC have won just once, drawn once and lost thrice out of their last five games.

United drew 1-1 in their last match against Mumbai FC as they conceded a last minute goal by Nicholas Rodrigues. Thangboi Singto’s men will consider this as the opportune moment to bring down the Kolkata side considering their poor form and their target man Ranty Martins Soleye having moved to Rangdajied United.

Lajong will miss the services of Taisuke Matsugae and Milan Singh who are both out due to injury. Uilliams is expected to make a comeback tomorrow as he was out for a while due to an injury. The club will also look to play their new and only signing during the second window, Durga Boro the prolific striker from Assam.

Shillong Lajong FC Coach Thangboi Singto said, “We need a strong and a positive start after the break and getting the three points will be great.”

“United plays a good brand of football and they have good experienced players. It’s going to be a tough match for us but we have to perform together as a team and one unit to win. We will be missing Taisuke and Milan which is a big setback. But this will provide an opportunity to other players to play and do well,” he concluded.

Tomorrow’s match promises to be an exciting encounter with The Reds in a breezing form and the Kolkata outfit will definitely try to put up a thrilling show to better their position in the I-League table.
