I-League: Viva Challenge for Indian Arrows

They are young; they are agile; they are sharp. They are the Indian Arrows. Teams who have played them in the I-League so far fear them for their fighting spirit and more importantly, their fitness levels.

But as the Arrows take on Viva Kerala in a crucial I-League encounter at the Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex in Gurgaon on Saturday, coach Desmond Bulpin won’t be getting his first-choice XI.

“I have 18 fit boys at my disposal for the match,” Bulpin said. “Some are injured; a couple are appearing for their exams while another has just been operated.”

“The beauty of my side stays that everyone is fighting for his place in the first XI. With so much competition around, the moral always stays high,” he added.

The All India Football Federation has ensured the team gets the best of facilities in Gurgaon. You have a look at their accommodation, the swimming pool, the gym and even have a bite; you ought to believe the administration is in safe hands, a thought which Bulpin endorsed.

“The boys are being provided the best of amenities. There’s no room for any complaints.”

Ask Bulpin about the future stars, he counters, “Football is a team game. It’s all about the squad and not individuals,” he uttered, even as his wards tried to perfect the set-piece sessions.

The Arrows, at present stay on 23 points from 22 matches while Viva Kerala stay on 22 from 23.

“Viva are a good team. Their mobility has frustrated many a side so far. We need to execute our plans to perfection,” Bulpin maintained.

The kick-off is slated for 4.15pm
