What’s The Story?
Komal Thatal, the star attraction for the U17 World Cup, seems to have lost his way a little. He was termed as the ‘Wonder Kid’ of India, but Indian coach Luis Norton De Matos only gave him one start in the World Cup against USA.
He tried his best but failed to impress his coach was benched for the next two matches. Thatal was under scanner from the scouts of a number of English Premier League clubs. The young sensation from Sikkim with faux-blond hair like that of Neymar is now looking for a club. He has now reportedly been left out of the Indian Arrows squad, leaving him free to be signed by the I-League clubs.
The context
Thatal is a special talent and the entire football fraternity of India knows that. He needs a little guidance and encouragement. He has all the ingredients to be an asset to Indian football. For some unknown reason, however, he went out of favour with Matos and could not get through.
Now, the AIFF, which is launching a new side in I-League named Indian Arrows have not included Thatal once again.
The heart of the matter
Thatal was considered as the most promising footballer of Indian U17 football team and now he is looking for a club. Matos didn’t even keep him in the side for the AFC Championship. There is a speculation that he had a fall-out with the coach, but now he is all fired up and willing to prove a point in the I-League itself.
What’s Next?
Playing for top clubs will give him top-level experience, and if he shines here, he can truly grow as a footballer, and perhaps take India to greater glories.
Author’s take
Thatal is a wonderful talent. He has scored some amazing goals in the junior levels. Thatal should be at the forefront of the next generation of Indian footballers.
