Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski voted for the winner of the Ballon d’Or, Cristiano Ronaldo. But, he has now admitted that he should have voted for his Bayern Munich team-mate Manuel Neuer.
Neuer, the World Cup winner, finished third in the Ballon d’Or awards behind winner Ronaldo and second-placed Lionel Messi.
Lewandowski got a vote as he is the captain of his National side, Poland. In the official voting, the Polish captain chose Ronaldo as his first choice, with the German Goalkeeper his second choice and another World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger the third.
He said that he would have changed his decision, if given a chance to vote today.
He said, “It was a mistake on my part to have chosen Ronaldo.
“I would clearly choose Neuer today if I had the chance but I voted sometime in August. Today I would choose differently. I'm very sorry for Manu.”
Lewandowski, despite not voting for Neuer, was left in disbelief as Neuer finished third despite playing a starring role in Germany’s World Cup triumph and Bayern’s Bundesliga win alongwith the DFB-Pokal victory.
He said, “I am really surprised that he did not even come in second and the big gap to Ronaldo also baffles me. Manuel is an amazing goalkeeper and person.”
