Madrid, June 1 (IANS) Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos on Monday said his club's fans should savour the memories left behind by sacked coach Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian, who won the European Champions League and Copa del Rey in the 2013-14 season, was sacked last week as Real finished their 2014-15 season without claiming a major trophy.
"Madrid fans can savour the taste of not only a great person but a great coach who gave us a lot of titles that we didn't win for a long time," Ramos was quoted as saying on Monday.
The 29-year-old said personally he would not have let Ancelotti leave the club after just one season of failure.
"I'm not the best placed to decide these things. Perhaps, in my case, I would not have done this but that is what the club directors are there to do," he said when asked whether changing the coach was the right decision.
Rafael Benitez is poised to take over the reins at Real and Ramos believes his experience could play a vital role in the club's success.
"Obviously we can't comment much until it's made official by the club. He's a great coach with a lot of experience in Italy, England, Spain... a coach who brings experience is always good for a dressing room like ours," Ramos said.
