More than 1,200 Manchester United fans gathered at the Blue Frog in New Delhi on Sunday, May 12 to watch Sir Alex Ferguson lift the English Premier League trophy for the final time with his Red Devils. Fans started to arrive four hours before kick-off, queuing round the block in the blistering heat to get into the fourth global #IAMUNITED fan party, presented by Airtel in Delhi after successful events in New York, Kuwait and Jakarta. Ex-United defender David May made the trip out to Delhi to join in the celebrations, telling fans about his time as part of the great Treble-winning team of 1999.
Delhi fan Nandita Jain said, “It’s a dream come true for me to be here. The fact that United are bringing things like #IAMUNITED to India is fantastic; it makes us feel so much closer to the club and makes us feel so connected with fans around the world.”Sir Alex has taught me so much in my life. He taught me to believe in myself, so I just want to say thank you to him for everything he has achieved.”There was also a celebration for Paul Scholes, with fans in Delhi repeating the actions of those in Manchester by giving him a standing ovation as he left the field after 66 minutes, in his final home game before retiring.
Fans expressed their excitement about having such a large party in India and would surely hope for a repeat.
