Despite reports linking Luis Suarez to move to Arsenal, Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre is confident that the Uruguayan will not be leaving this summer.
The Uruguayan was quite vocal about his intentions to move to a different club largely because of his relations with the English media on how he was being treated in the press. Although with the Reds rejecting two bids from Premier League rivals Arsenal, no deal has yet materialized.
Since the talks of their star striker move to another club has gone silent in the past two weeks, Ayre has assured the fans that the striker will be seen on Merseyside come September 2.
As quoted by Metro, Ayre said, “We’ve got Luis Suarez in our squad, he’ll have trained today and he’s working hard”.
“Despite what people think we have not had an intention of selling Luis, we have never said we want to sell Luis. He continues to work hard and train hard for Liverpool. That will continue and I’ll expect him to be here at the start of the season”.
Ayre also confirmed that Arsenal had bid twice for the player.
“It’s not something we’re interested in and, as our fans would expect, we rejected both. The player is not available for sale – that’s where we are and that’s where we’ll stay,” he added.
“I wish I had £1 for everyone that’s stopped me in the street saying, “Make sure Luis stays”. That’s what we’re doing.”
