Ignashevich nervous about club return after Euro failure

Moscow - Russia and CSKA Moscow defender Sergei Ignashevich is nervous about returning to his club after Russia’s shock elimination from Euro 2012 in the group stage, he said Monday.

Expectations were high Russia could repeat their run to the Euro 2008 semi-final after they entered the tournament on a 14-game unbeaten run and started it by beating the Czech Republic 4-1, but a 1-1 draw with co-hosts Poland and then a surprise 0-1 defeat to Greece sent the Russians home.

“I don’t even know whether at the club they still want me to come back after the match with Greece,” he said on his personal website.

Ignashevich, 32, has scored five times in 78 appearances for Russia since debuting in 2002 and has made 220 appearances for CSKA.

He has won two Russian titles and the 2005 UEFA Cup while at CSKA, where he is under contract until July 2014.
