With rumors flying in left, right and centre, IIkay Gundogan has finally broken his silence on his Facebook page and revealed that he will make a decision on his future once the season ends and the Euro qualification match against Gibraltar is also over. Dortmund had announced in April that Gundogan had not yet signed a contract extension and would leave either when his contract expires or before.
In his post, he says that he has been reading all the transfer gossip about him that is going around, especially after some newspapers reported that he had agreed for a move to Manchester United which nobody confirmed. Later on he was linked to Barcelona and Bayern Munich, but it was reported yesterday on Bild that an agreement could not be reached with either of the clubs as his salary demands of €10 million were deemed to be too high.
He says he decided to finally comment on the situation after seeing the dubious salary demands that were being associated with him. But he wanted to remind everyone that he has one more year left on his contract with Borussia Dortmund and would decide on his future after the end of the season.
Gundogan’s message on Facebook (translated from German)
Dear fans,
Normally I don’t react to media reports, certainly not on Facebook. But this time, I would like to put some things your way and give you greater insight.
In recent weeks, like you, I read again and again, in the past weeks where I have allegedly put pen to paper. Contract talks here today, a medical there the next day. It made me chuckle at first, but when I read about 'contract poker' and was called a 'hustler,' it gave me food for thought. After a number of media reports surfaced yesterday, I decided to tell you myself.
The season 2014/15 strictly speaking ends only on 30.06.2015. In spite of only a few transfers being done in Europe so far, people urged me to make a final decision sooner rather than later with every published rumour.
What was completely forgotten: I still have one year left on my contract at Dortmund. I will make a decision about my future as soon as possible, but only after the end of the season and our important European Championships qualifier with the national team
Until then.
Liebe Fans, normalerweise äußere ich mich nicht zu Medienberichten, schon gar nicht über Facebook. Ich möchte diesmal...
