Real Madrid legend and Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas is loved by fans the world over. Iker spent 16 years of his playing career at his boyhood club, Real Madrid. In the latter stages of his spell, he lost a bit of his mojo and was unceremoniously ousted from the Santiago Bernabeu. Iker has started his career with Porto on a high note and has played every game thus far for the Portuguese club, keeping four clean sheets in the process. The Spaniard has always been popular among fans, giving them jerseys, boots, gloves and exquisite saves among others.
In order to reach out to more fans, Casillas did a Q&A session with fans on UEFA Champions League’s facebook page. The questions ranged from best opponent to his life at Porto, and he answered them all.
The Spanish captain has faced Lionel Messi many times in the El Clasico before his move to Porto. When quizzed about the toughest opponent he has ever faced, he mentioned the Argentine’s name.
With Messi being the toughest opponent, Casillas also named the best player he has played with. And quite unsurprisingly, he named the Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane as the one he loved watching.
Casillas has made various brilliant saves during his glittering career, in which he won three Champions League and a World Cup. When asked about which match he wants to be remembered for, he named the Champions League 2002 final where Casillas famously came off the bench to deny Leverkusen some clear cut chances and won the title for Los Blancos.
Lots of goalkeepers have reiterated the fact that lives of goalkeepers are not easy. Casillas had his fair share of ups and downs at the Santiago Bernabeu in his 16 years long career. When a fan asked him for tips on how to become a good goalkeeper, the Spaniard asked him to be mentally strong.
When asked about why he chose to be a goalkeeper, he revealed that his father had a big hand in his inclination towards goalkeeping. But not how we all would assume!
Like every other goalkeeper, Casillas stated that he got very angry every time he conceded a goal, so he has no clue about the best goal scored against him.
The Spanish goalkeeper also named his childhood idol when quizzed about it by a fan. Here’s what his answer was,
