Imphal witnesses Baichung's FPAI XI win 1-0 against Renedy's Manipur XI

The two teams lined up before the match. The match featured five ex-India captains including Baichung Bhutia.

More than 20,000 fans in Imphal witnessed a high profile All-stars match this afternoon with a number of current and ex-Indian internationals taking the field at the city’s Khuman Lampak Main Stadium.

In the match, an MDS Manipur XI led by Renedy Singh took on an MDS FPAI All-Star XI led by ex-India captain Baichung Bhutia, which was won by the latter 1-0 courtesy a goal from youngster Nadong Bhutia.

The match was played to raise funds for youth football in the north-eastern state, while it also brought some of the best footballers in the country to play in the state that produces a high number of players for the I-League and the Indian national team.

The Manipur XI had Thokchom Naoba Singh, Irungbam Surkumar Singh, Gouramangi Moirangthem Singh, L. Dhanachandra Singh, M. Subhas Singh, James Lukram Singh, Chitrasen Singh, P. Renedy Singh, Mutum Bijen Singh, Sushil Kumar Singh, Singam Subash Singh, Khangembam Thoi Singh and others on the field.

The FPAI XI were represented by Subrata Pal, Soram Poirei Anganba, Debabrata Roy, Nirmal Chettri, Irungbam Khelemba Meetei, Robert Lalthalmuana, Sanju Pradhan, Climax Lawrence, Clifford Miranda, Lalrindika Ralte, Baichung Bhutia, Sunil Chhetri, Jeje Lalpekhlua, Nadong Bhutia and others.

The match was organised as the finale of a two-month long Manipur football development programme, which had been organised and funded by the Manipur Development Society. The match was promoted by the Manipur Development Society while the FootballEdge organised the event and matchday proceedings.
