Not many managers have passed through the Premier League and made an instant impact as profound as Ange Postecoglou has since arriving at Tottenham Hotspur.
The 58-year-old took over a job in the summer that had frustrated and sapped the energy out of many before him. Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho, and Antonio Conte all had miserable ends to their spells at the club.
However, Postecoglou has shown a lot of promise, and although it’s still early days, all the signs are looking positive for Tottenham at the moment.
Monday's (October 23) 2-0 victory over Fulham was the latest important result chalked by Spurs under Postecoglou. They remain unbeaten in the Premier League after nine games.
The club’s form has been spearheaded by Son Heung-min and summer signing James Maddison, both of whom have been leading by example.
Spurs return to Premier League summit
Son and Maddison were the goalscorers when Tottenham 2-0 defeated Fulham at home, helping the north London side reclaim top spot in the Premier League.
The beautiful thing about this Spurs team is that they are united. Postecoglou has created a culture where players support each other on the pitch and even those on the bench don't feel left out.
Tottenham’s nine-game unbeaten run has been downplayed by some due to the level of opposition they’ve faced. However, they’ve still played some of the big teams and not buckled.
Spurs have already beaten Manchester United and Liverpool, while they also shared the spoils at Arsenal. They can only get better from here despite having tougher challenges to come.
Son and Maddison filling void left by Kane
When Harry Kane swapped Tottenham for Bayern Munich in the summer, many predicted a complete capitulation for the Spurs this season.
Those fears were genuine, considering how Kane had carried the club for years and was directly responsible for 30 Premier League goals last season. Where were the goals going to come from this season and which players were going to step up?
Those questions have, however, been answered by Son and Maddison, whose contributions are helping to fill the void left behind by Kane. Both players have been involved in 16 goals this season and it’s a partnership that seems to be growing stronger with each passing week.
"They [Son and Maddison] are both quality players. They are both leaders at the club. They work hard for the team and it is a credit to them,” Postecoglou said of his two in-form players after the win over Fulham. (via Football.London)
Tottenham may currently be lacking a prolific striker like Kane, but the 30-year-old hasn’t been missed yet since joining Bayern. That is only thanks to the imperious form of Maddison and Son this season.
