All India Football Federation (AIFF) have announced a 17-member squad for the FAM-FRENZ Asia Champions Trophy 2015, AIFF Media reported. The competition begins on August 05, 2015 but India is not due to play their first game till August 19, 2015. They will play Malaysian side Felda United FC at the Hand Tuah Stadium away from home in their opener.
The Indian youth have been drawn against two teams from Malaysia – Frenz United A, Felda United FC and one Thai team – Chonburi FC. Two teams out of the four who finish top of the table after a round of 6 games (home and away against each team) will move on to the knockout stage.
Lee Johnson, Head Coach of the Indian U-19 National Team spoke about the squad and competition to AIFF Media, he said: “It is important for any Player to play games in a competitive environment, as a competitive environment is an integral part of any Player’s development.
“These Competitions provide the experience needed in order to develop as a Player.”
Having formerly managed in the Chelsea and Crystal Palace academies, Johnson comes to the fore bringing with him a host of experience to share with the youth of the Indian U-19s as they embark on their quest for glory in Asia.
