Indian Super League (ISL) club Delhi Dynamos today announced they have extended Spanish midfielder Marcos Tebar's contract, which will keep him at the club till the end of the 2019-20 season.
Tebar, who was part of the FC Pune City squad in the 2017-18 season, returned to Delhi Dynamos for the start of the 2018-19 season, having already featured for the capital club in the 2016 season, when he was an integral part of the squad that reached the semifinal, where they lost to Kerala Blasters in a penalty shootout.
The former Real Madrid star was one of the players that the team was banking on after he reunited with his former employees after a gap of nearly two years. The comeback was not one he would have expected.
A couple of goals and a single assist was all he could register beside his name in this year’s ISL. But Tebar's role was that of the deepest-lying midfielder, and it was clear that the Dynamos suffered without his presence on the field.
He was always one of the leaders of the Delhi squad, and was named the club captain after Pritam Kotal left the Dynamos to join ATK midway through the season.
Having played for a number of Spanish clubs like Rayo Vallecano and Girona FC, along with being a product of the Real Madrid youth academy, Tebar has a wealth of experience of football at highest level, and it is that experience which Josep Gombau will once again count on from his captain, even if the Spanish midfielder has lost a yard of pace over the last couple of years.
