Jamshedpur FC has completed a major signing of Spanish midfielder Aitor Monroy Rueda for the upcoming season of the Indian Super League. This is a major boost for the club in their quest for a first-ever top-four finish. In their two years at the top flight, they never managed to qualify for the play-offs.
The 31-year-old playmaker started his club career back in 2005 for Atletico Madrid 'C' and got promoted to their 'B' side after a couple of years. Following which he represented various Spanish clubs. After a couple of seasons with Maccabi Petah Tikva in the Israeli Premier League, Aitor is all set to make his debut in the Indian football circuit next season. Known for possessing great tactical skills, he is a versatile footballer who gives a balance to the midfield.
"I am thrilled to be joining Jamshedpur FC. It is a great opportunity to play in a unique country like India and I am particularly looking forward to playing for the fans in Jamshedpur,” said Aitor after his transfer.
The Spaniard will be joining the squad for the rest of the pre-season.
Aitor is the fifth foreigner to sign for Jamshedpur FC this season including new entrants Noe Costa and Francisco Medina Luna. On the other hand, skipper Tiri and midfielder Memo have extended their respective contracts with the team from the Eastern part of the nation.
Jamshedpur FC narrowly missed out on a semi-final berth in the previous season finishing with 27 points from 18 matches.
The striking fact about their campaign was that they lost just 3 matches, but played out nine stalemates, which cost them dear in the business end of the tournament. With a bunch of new signings, the ‘Men of Steel’ will be hoping for an improved show in the upcoming 2019-20 ISL.
